CAPG Directs $3600 to IWSO in general support of IWSO Programming

Ottawa, ON – January 7, 2022.  Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO), today announced receiving a donation from The Canadian Association of Police Governance from the annual CAPG Conference held in September.  This conference is the leading event in the National Police Governance sector and was held virtually over a three-day period.   Delegates were encouraged to network, discuss, engage, and discover the rich community they continue to foster.  This year, the Ottawa Police Services Board was the host for the 2021 CAPG conference and it was their choice of Immigrant Women Services Ottawa as the charity to support.

Ottawa Police Services Board chair, Diane Deans said, “As the host Board for the annual CAPG Conference, it was important for us to select a local charity to support that delivers critical services in our community to some of our most vulnerable populations. IWSO was an ideal choice given the much-needed services it provides to immigrant and racialized women and their families in the City of Ottawa.”

Wayne Talbot, President of Canadian Association of Police Governance said, “As part of our 32nd Annual Conference this year, we were pleased to have raised over $3000 for Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) in partnership with our host, the Ottawa Police Services Board (OPSB). We gladly accepted the OPSB’s recommendation to support IWSO as an organization whose values strongly align with those of the CAPG.”  Mr. Talbot went on to say, “On behalf of the CAPG Board of Directors, I wish them well as they continue their efforts to create positive change in the lives of immigrant and racialized women in Ottawa.”

“We are grateful to The Canadian Association of Police Governance and Ottawa Police Services Board for the support and encouragement shown by them as we strive to provide immigrant and racialized women and their families in the City of Ottawa and the surrounding area with the supports and tools to achieve their full potential as members of Canadian society.  The $3600 has been specifically earmarked for capital costs that will improve IWSO programming offered to the immigrant women we serve.” said Mercy Lawluvi, Executive Director of IWSO.
