Position: Culinary Entrepreneurship Program Coordinator

Job Type: Part-time (28 hours/week), In person, January 2025 – December 2025

Reports to: The Manager, Settlement & Integration Services

Salary and benefits: $52,900 per annum plus a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, RRSP, and generous leave entitlements

Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) is a community-based agency serving immigrant women.

IWSO’s mandate is to:

  • Empower immigrant and racialized women to participate in the elimination of all forms of abuse against women and their children.

Program Summary

This program aims to support immigrant and racialized women in acquiring culinary and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to secure employment or start their own businesses within the Canadian culinary industry.

Position Summary

The Culinary Entrepreneurship Program Coordinator will Coordinate the Immigrant Women Services Ottawa Culinary Entrepreneurship Program, helping immigrant and racialized women develop culinary and business skills. The role includes overseeing training, curriculum development, mentorship, and placements while ensuring participants gain hands-on experience and support to start businesses or find employment in the culinary sector.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage program schedules, ensuring timely delivery of curriculum and training.
  • Launch and manage the outreach campaign to recruit participants from immigrant and racialized communities.
  • Collaborate with the partners to tailor the curriculum and training materials for program participants.
  • Facilitate and coordinate workshops and one-on-one coaching on culinary techniques, entrepreneurship, and business planning.
  • Create a supportive, culturally sensitive environment that encourages community-building among participants.
  • Ensure that all training content is culturally appropriate and addresses the specific needs of immigrant and racialized women.
  • Develop supplementary resources on topics like business startups, food safety regulations, and marketing strategies.
  • Build relationships with local restaurants, community kitchens, and other industry stakeholders to secure practicum placements.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Culinary Entrepreneurship Program, ensuring the successful implementation of each program phase.
  • Represent the program at community events, outreach activities, and industry gatherings to raise awareness and recruit new participants.
  • Track program progress, participant outcomes, and key performance indicators.
  • Provide regular reports to the Program Manager on program outcomes and achievements.
  • Perform any other tasks related to the position as required.

Qualifications

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Experience in program coordination, culinary skills, or entrepreneurship (or a combination of these).
  • Knowledge of the food industry, including food safety standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for empowering immigrant and racialized women and supporting their entrepreneurial goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of computer applications and database software.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary, any additional languages are an asset.
  • A Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector is required as part of the hiring process.
